MY EXPERIENCE ABROAD

In August 2019 I went to Hastings, in England in order to improve my English.

It was the first time I took a plane on my own and I was a bit worried but this helped me to become more independent. When I landed in London I had to take a train to reach my host family. Unfortunately I took the wrong one and my journey lasted for many hours but in the end I arrived at Hastings.

My host-mother was a nice lady and I lived with her, her brothers and their two dogs for 1 month.

In the morning she brought me to school by car and I stayed there until the afternoon. There I met a lot of people all over the world with whom I spent the afternoon after school: we went shopping, we went to the beach and to parks.

One day we went to London and even if it wasn’t my first time I visited it, I enjoyed the visit very much. We didn’t know but that day the biggest gay pride of Europe was being held all over London. Everybody seemed happy and carefree. This was the biggest party I have ever taken part in. An interesting thing about that day, that made me reflect was that my Russian friend was completely against the pride while my French friend kept telling her to open her mind. To my mind, this reflects the stereotypes of some narrow-minded cultures.

This experience surely improved my English in an easy way but most of all made me more independent and confident. This occasion let me make a lot of new friends, with very different personalities and discover new and interesting life experiences that opened my mind.
